Say goodbye to fall allergies

It happens every fall. When ragweed blooms, so do allergies. The sneezing starts. The eyes itch and the nose runs.

Seasonal allergies can be a pain, but there is hope. With a little planning, you can banish the allergens and breathe easier. Here's what you can do:

  • Check the weather. If it's dry and windy, skip the hike and opt for an indoor activity instead. You can check pollen counts on the National Allergy Bureau website.

  • Say no to yardwork. Pass off mowing and raking leaves to someone else. If that's not possible, wear a mask as you work.

  • Get clean. Take a shower after you go outside or before you go to bed. This will help rinse pollen off your body.

  • Filter your air. Close windows and turn on the air conditioning instead. Change your HVAC filter regularly.

  • Rinse your sinuses. Look for a squeeze bottle or a neti pot at a pharmacy or health food store. Use it regularly to flush out mucus and allergens from your nose.
